At the beginning of the year I wrote about refinement and charity. I am still on a personal quest to figure out how to refine my actions for the benefit of myself and others. It is a matter of being more intentional in doing certain activities, or more often than not, not doing them.
I used to be insistent about blogging every day. Writing is my creative outlet and this blog provides me a place to let that flow, but sometimes with my edict of daily blogging, I think I occasionally actually produce sub par work. So I have let that go and if I am too busy or uninspired, I don’t force it.
This is actually starting to bring me more focus, something Velveteen Mind wrote about in February which I took to heart.

The charity piece comes a little easier. I wrote about the need to give back more at the end of last year. I am now donating to the AFAR Foundation on a monthly basis and have plans to help more with the organization. I gave up my birthday for charity:water and ran my first campaign with that organization. But I want to do more.
Last August in Saturday Six #109 I mentioned two bloggers who give to charity on a yearly or monthly basis via comment-for-charity activities. It totally inspired me and I have been thinking about it ever since. Then I realized that was all I was doing, thinking and not acting.
Today that changes. And no, it’s not an April Fool’s joke! Starting today and for every month going forward I will be running my own comment-for-charity program.
For every comment left on Misadventures with Andi during the month of April, I will donate 50 cents to charity:water.
Why charity:water? Well, I did that “give up my birthday for charity” campaign in January and fell short of my desired goal of $500. So I am hoping to get there with your help!

There are some rules! A couple of things to note:
[1] They should be real comments. Things like “great job” or “I like this post” aren’t going to count.
[2] No more than TWO (2) comments per day. But you can come back every day if you like!
This month the recipient of the donation is charity:water – you are welcome to donate additional money to the campaign if you like.

For June, I have selected the AFAR Foundation.
I will select a different charity every month.
